A Direct Look at Three New Bracelets from the Onin Peninsula

Fakfak is a historic, quiet coastal town in West Papua. Known locally as the "Nutmeg City," it is a region of steep limestone karsts and rainforests. It is also the source of some of Indonesia’s most distinctive wild Agarwood.

We have recently received three new bracelets from this area. They are characterised by a dark, consistent resin and a visible, natural grain pattern that is typical of high-quality wild-harvested wood from the Onin Peninsula.

A Matter of Weight and Resin

In the world of Agarwood, the weight of the beads is the most reliable indicator of resin content. We have documented the exact specifications for each of these three pieces:

• The 10mm Selection (around 4.5g): A lighter, more discreet profile. Despite its smaller size, the dark resin lines are clearly defined. 
• The 12mm Selection (around 6.1g): A classic size for daily wear, offering a balanced weight and a bold appearance on the wrist. 
• The 12mm Premium Selection (around 6.3g): The densest piece in this small batch. This bracelet has slightly more resin by weight, providing a deeper hue.

• The 16mm Selection (over 9g): A robust and substantial piece. Featuring larger 16mm beads, this option showcases impressive weight and prominent, deep resin grain across every bead.

• The 6mm 108 Mala Selection (over 5g): A fine, delicate 108-bead mala ideal for traditional practice or subtle daily wear. Its smaller beads display tight, neat resin details while maintaining a lightweight feel.

• The 8mm 108 Mala Selection (over 13g): A solid, well-proportioned 108-bead mala. The 8mm beads offer a comfortable tactile balance and noticeable weight, making the dark resin patterns stand out clearly.

Each piece is meticulously finished using fine sandpaper polishing, which reveals a clean, smooth, and shiny surface. This careful polishing technique by hand brings out the beautiful grains of each bead.

The Nature of the Wood

Because these are sourced from wild trees in the rugged environment of West Papua, no two beads are identical. The pattern you see is the organic result of the tree’s natural defense against the elements. It is a durable, honest material that feels cool to the touch and develops a unique character as it is worn.

I know it is difficult for you to feel it by looking at the picture. So I enlarge some beads for you to examine. These are not the top of the top quality beads. However, they are quite decent, good looking genuine wild Agarwood beads.
