Placebo or Power? Why Science Dismisses Crystals (and Why Healers Still Believe)

Tháng 8 02, 2026 6 đọc tối thiểu

I have a customer in Aberfoyle Park, South Australia. She told me that she could feel the energy of crystal.

She said she could feel the temperature change. For example, sometimes, a crystal may feel warm, other times it is ice-cold.

One thing is certain, if she is holding the crystal in her hand and she says it is ice cold right now. If I am to touch that crystal held by her, I will not feel what she feels. I may not “feel” anything.

Maybe because I do not have this crystal ability.
Maybe it is her brain telling her nervous system to feel the micro sensation.
Or maybe because each person's vibrational frequency is different.

What is vibrational frequency?

In high school, we learn about atoms and molecules. We also learn about the frequency lof sound waves, light waves and electromagnetic energy,Hertz is the measuring unit. One Hz is one vibration per second. That is all I know.
Watch a person playing guitar, depending on how she plucks, the string moves back and forth quickly or slowly. Slow means low vibrational frequency, high means high vibrational frequency.

I think people use this concept to apply to the energy level of humans, but we use a different word: “Vibe”, the unspoken energy or feeling that a person brings into a room.

So I suspect this concept is also “applied” to crystals or gemstones.

I love technology so I am aware that gemstone like quartz are used in machine components. Quartz is used to make the manufacturing equipment and containers that hold the silicon in Semiconductor chips. This page explain well All about Quartz

Think of quartz crystals as nature’s own "tuning forks." Here is a simple look at how they function in our daily used gadgets versus why people wear crystals in general for well-being:

  • The Physics: If you apply pressure (squeeze) or send electricity through a quartz crystal, it vibrates at an incredibly steady and unchanging speed.

  • The Use: Engineers use this constant vibration in smartphones and cars to keep time and send signals. It acts like a reliable anchor for all our technology.

I believe many healers or who can feel crystal energy “borrow” these scientific concepts to explain the spiritual benefits of crystals:

  • Stable Anchor or Grounding: you notice this word “grounding” is used very often to describe feeling in Yoga, and meditation for calm and composure. Just as the vibration stays steady while technology fluctuates, people use crystals as a reminder to stay grounded when their emotions feel chaotic.

  • A Transceiver: Much like how crystals help radios send signals, some believe they help focus personal intentions, acting like a bridge for mental energy.

  • Energy Transformation: The way quartz turns electricity into movement is used as a metaphor for turning negative feelings into more positive ones.

Real or scam?

This leads us to the heart of the debate: if science can’t measure these effects, are they for real?

The skeptic would argue that any 'healing' experienced is merely the placebo effect, the brain convincing the body that it feels better because we want it to. But perhaps we should reframe our understanding of the placebo effect itself.

If a physical object, a stone, a token, a reminder helps you shift your emotional state from chaotic to calm, does the 'why' matter as much as the result?

Even if the relief is self-generated, that shift is a tangible, valid tool for your mental well-being. It turns out that the true power of a crystal might not be in the rock itself, but in the intention and awareness it forces us to cultivate.

I have been to some of these Mind Body Spirit events.

Many people do not believe in crystals because there has been no concrete scientific evidence proving it is really working so far. But does that mean they are useless?

Not necessarily.

While science looks at the isolated physical properties of a single mineral, ancient traditions look at how different energies interact within a larger system. To truly understand how to bring chaotic emotions into balance, it helps to look at a foundational concept that maps out these natural shifts, the Chinese philosophy of the Five Elements (Wu Xing).

Understanding the Five Elements

The Five Elements (Wu Xing) Cycles Generation Cycle (Feeds) Controlling Cycle (Restrains) WOOD FIRE EARTH METAL WATER

For someone new to this concept, it helps to know that these five elements, Metal,Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth, are not just literal, physical objects. Instead, think of them as types of emotional and physical energy that are constantly moving and changing inside us.

The Five Elements system (called Wu Xing) is an old way of thinking. These elements are not just physical things. They represent how things in nature change and move. Long ago, people used this system to explain the seasons, how the body works, and how to keep nature in balance. They used two main cycles:

  • The Generation Cycle (how energy feeds us)  This is the cycle of support and growth. Wood fuels Fire. Fire burns down to create Earth (ash). Earth compresses to form Metal. Metal enriches Water (like minerals in a spring). Water nourishes Wood to start the cycle again.

  • The Controlling Cycle (how energy restrains us): To prevent one energy from becoming too dominant, this cycle maintains boundaries. Wood penetrates Earth. Earth absorbs Water. Water puts out Fire. Fire melts Metal. Metal cuts Wood.

While these cycles sound beautifully balanced on paper, our daily lives rarely stay in perfect harmony. Stress, fatigue, or shifting emotions can easily cause one element to overpower the others, leaving us feeling ungrounded or overwhelmed.

You do not need to master complex ancient philosophies to bring these forces back into alignment. That is exactly why we created the Five Element Bracelet. By bringing all five energetic phases together into a single, continuous loop, this wearable anchor helps keep your personal cycles balanced, fluid, and working in harmony all day long.

Phase Emotional & Physical Energy Real-Life Example Out of Balance How to Bring it Back in balance
Wood Vision, ambition, planning, and starting new projects. Brainstorming a new business idea or mapping out a career path. Feeling stubborn, frustrated, or completely stuck in a rut. Add Water: Allow yourself to rest, step back, and let things flow naturally rather than forcing them.
Fire High energy, passion, socialising, and pure joy. Launching a product, networking at an event, or speaking to an audience. Experiencing anxiety, impulsivity, and total burnout. Add Earth: Ground yourself by taking a break from screens, walking barefoot outside, or slowing down your breathing.
Earth Nurturing, processing, stabilizing, and centering. Processing your day, cooking a nourishing meal, or listening to a family member. Overthinking, worrying constantly, and feeling physically heavy or stagnant. Add Metal: Create structure, set firm boundaries, and practice decluttering your schedule.
Metal Discipline, organization, letting go, and clarity. Organizing your workspace, editing a draft, or deleting old digital files. Becoming overly critical, perfectionistic, and emotionally detached. Add Fire: Soften the rigidity by doing something playful, spontaneous, and joyful that requires no plan.
Water Intuition, deep wisdom, stillness, and recharging. Meditating, sleeping deeply, or reflecting quietly without trying to "fix" anything. Feeling anxious, restless, fearful, or overwhelmed by emotions. Add Wood: Get moving, go for a walk outside, or take one small action step to break the stagnation.

In the chaos of daily life, it is incredibly difficult to constantly track which phase you are in. You might start your morning full of Wood energy (planning), rush into a stressful Fire phase (overworking), and completely skip the Earth and Water phases needed to recharge.

Instead of trying to manually balance these shifting phases every hour, a wearable bracelet like one of the five below combines these natural cycles into a single loop bracelet. By blending the rich, grounding Wood energy of premium Agarwood with the bright, optimistic Earth energy of Yellow Jade and the deep, insightful Water energy of Lapis Lazuli, it serves as a tangible transceiver on your wrist. It gently reminds you to transition smoothly from action to rest, keeping your internal elements balanced and fluid all day long.

But how do we bring this ancient wisdom into our modern, fast-paced routines? While tracking your shifting energetic phases throughout a busy day can feel overwhelming, you do not have to master complex philosophies to stay centered. The easiest way to maintain alignment is to wear a physical reminder, an energetic toolkit that keeps these forces moving in harmony for you.

Rooted in the ancient wisdom of the Five Elements, Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water, this collection is crafted for those who understand that true healing begins with energy alignment. Each bracelet combines the sacred, grounding essence of agarwood with intentionally chosen gemstones that amplify each element's healing frequency.
